The Tutorial House Jazz Band, under the direction of Michael Fahie, is made up interested and dedicated wind players (saxophone, trombone and trumpet) as well as piano, guitar, bass and drums in grades T1 – T4 (grades 9-12). Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:35 – 5:00 pm and enrollment in the group is by audition.
Students in the Jazz Band are expected to perform in approximately 10 concerts throughout the course of the year, both at UNIS and elsewhere. Students work on sight reading, improvisation skills, jazz performance style and ensemble blend within a small jazz “combo” situation. Arrangements are written to suit the instrumentation and level of the group.
