Library Program

The Tutorial House library reinforces the library, information retrieval and literacy skills developed thus far. Instruction is provided through a formal course in Tutorial One and through research sessions coordinated with other subject classes throughout the four years. The Library supports club activities, such as UNIS-UN and the Debate Club to ensure that library resources are effectively used in these pursuits

In Tutorial One, students receive instruction during a Research and Writing semester course on how to build references for research papers with proper bibliographic citations and in-text referencing. They continue to learn how to effectively use print and online resources available through the UNIS library and the New York Public Library. Library faculty collaborates closely with the History and the UN studies programs in order to integrate information retrieval skills into the subject curriculum.

In Tutorial Two, instruction is delivered through class projects and proper tools are given for continued research skills. The librarian provides pathfinders for projects and encourages students to find sources by themselves.

Clubs, such as UNIS-UN and the debate club are actively encouraged to use all library resources.

In Tutorial Three and Four, the process continues. In addition, special orientation is given to those who are doing their extended essay, a requirement for the IB diploma. UNIS graduates are well informed users of libraries. They are ready to navigate the information world.
