Library resources

The Junior School library, often called the "heart of the Junior School" is located in the center of the Junior school and offers a warm and comfortable place for students to read. Students can lounge on pillows, or read at tables.

Surrounded by stunning river views, the upper school library is a spacious and inviting space for study and reading. The library offers both tables for group work and carrels for individual study. Both a photocopier and a printer are available. There are many computer workstations with internet and database access. Laptops are available for loan in the library and may also be checked out.

The Queens library includes a large storytelling space, a welcoming research area with computers for student use, and a comprehensive collection of fiction and nonfiction books for both older and younger readers.

The libraries maintain an impressive collection of more than 85,000 books designed to support the school’s rigorous curriculum and to reflect the school’s international student body.

In addition to its extensive reference collection and non-fiction sources needed to support the academic needs of each grade, each library maintains large and heavily used fiction and literature collections.

The Junior School Library boasts one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of world folktales. That library also maintains a large and inclusive collection of books on countries and cultures around the world.

The Upper School library fiction section reflects the diversity of the school through its impressive collection of international literature and authors. The Library also maintains extensive French, Spanish and German language collections. Also unique to the UNIS Library are its extensive primary and secondary source collections on peace studies and on the United Nations.

The Upper School Library subscribes to 30 magazines in English, French and Spanish. In addition, the library subscribes to fifteen subscription databases that provide full text access to thousands of magazine and newspaper articles.

To supplement its collection, the school subscribes to an external consortium that provides access to videos in multiple formats such as VHS, DVD and streaming videos.

Online catalog of library resources and online subscription databases are accessible from school and from home.
