Helping students prepare for college is ongoing throughout the
upper high school years at UNIS. In response to the needs of students
and parents from throughout the world, the College Office works
closely with the administration, guidance department and parents
in assisting students in curriculum planning, course selection,
exploring summer opportunities and recommending appropriate language
and academic support programs. This involvement ensures that students
will have the necessary credentials for entrance to universities
worldwide. All 11th and 12th grade students are directly involved
in an intensive comprehensive college guidance program offering
individual counseling opportunities and group meetings.
INTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT: Beginning in the spring of the Tut 3 (11
Grade) year, the College Office plays a key role in the student's
academic lives. Students' schedules and any requests for program
changes must be approved by the college counselor. At the mid-year
point of the 11th grade year, students are scheduled into small
Future Planning Seminar groups designed to assist them in addressing
the various components of college and career selection. The importance
of decision-making, becoming informed about college options, learning
how to use resources and understanding the details related to the
college selection process are among the topics covered. Each student
is provided with comprehensive Future Planning packets covering
the seminar topics.
INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION: In the 11th and 12th grade year individualized
and intensive college guidance is provided. Each 11th grade student
is assigned an initial appointment to which parents are invited
in order to develop preliminary college choices and to discuss college
entrance testing, essay topics, and other individual concerns. The
opportunity for personalized attention continues through the 12th
grade year where direct assistance is given in identifying colleges
and application preparation.
