H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al-Hassan is the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, and concurrently the Vice-President of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and of the 31st Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During his 32 years in the diplomatic corps, he had taken on various assignments within Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including his last postings as Acting Under-Secretary for Diplomatic Affairs and as the Ministry’s Chief of Staff. Among his postings abroad, he served in the capacity as Oman’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, with non-resident accreditation to Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia and the Republic of Moldova; and as Deputy Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, New York: and moreover, represented Oman in various International Conferences.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics, and Informatics, a Master of Science in International Relations from St. John’s University in New York, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington, Seattle.
