H.E. Mohamed Abushahab

Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab has served as Permanent Representative of the
United Arab Emirates to the United Nations since April of 2024. Prior to this, from
August 2021 to April 2024, he was Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative,
having joined the Mission ahead of the UAE’s 2-year term on the UN Security Council
(2022-2023).

From January 2017 to August 2021, he was the UAE’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of
Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union. Prior to that, he
was the Director of Policy Planning at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 2013 to
2016.

His first diplomatic posting was to the UAE Mission in New York from July 2005 to May
2010.

Ambassador Abushahab holds a Bachelor of Arts from American University in
Washington, D.C. He is married to H.E. Amna Almheiri, the UAE Consul General in New
York, and they have 4 children.
