Stephen Margetts has served as a lawyer with the United Nations for over 20 years.  He is currently engaged as the Principal Legal Officer (General Law) for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the near east (UNRWA), having previously served as a prosecuting attorney before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), an administrative lawyer within the United Nations System of Internal Justice, and as Chief Project Officer, leading a major change initiative in the area of Safety and Security. Prior to joining the United Nations, Stephen worked as a commercial litigator in his hometown, Melbourne, Australia.

Stephen is married to Katharina Margetts, an attorney from Dortmund, Germany, who is a Director in the United Nations Secretariat. They have three children at UNIS, the elder entering his final year, T4, and the younger twins in Middle School. The family members are avid fans of Katharina’s hometown soccer team, Borussia Dortmund.
