By subway: Almost all the subway lines in Manhattan have stops at 33rd or 34th Street, and we recommend that from one of those subway stops, you take the M34A bus, which starts at Port Authority, goes along 34th Street, and ends directly in front of UNIS (it’s a Select bus, stopping only every three blocks or so). If you get off the subway at a stop on 23rd Street, we recommend that you take the eastbound M23 bus, which stops a block from UNIS. An alternative way to UNIS from most parts of Brooklyn is to take the F subway to Second Avenue, and then take the M15 bus, as described below.
By bus: The M15 bus goes north on First Avenue and south on Second Avenue, with stops on East 25th Street, just west of UNIS. From the bus stop, walk east on East 25th Street and the bridge over FDR Drive leads directly to UNIS. The M15 Select bus stops only every five blocks or so, and if you take it from the Second Avenue stop of the F train, it will stop only twice before UNIS: at 14th Street and then 25th Street, a block from UNIS. Another option is to take the M34A bus, which makes its last stop directly in front of UNIS, as described above.
By school bus: There are free school buses provided by New York City for students in kindergarten to sixth grade who live within five miles of the school and within Manhattan. There are also some private buses, arranged by parents, that have no age limit and no requirement of which borough the students must live in. UNIS students who don’t live near the school get free or reduced MetroCards from New York City.
By water ferry: The NYC Ferry provides service from a wide range of locations, including East 90th Street in Manhattan, Astoria, Long Island City, Williamsburg, DUMBO, Wall Street, and Rockaway. UNIS is between two ferry stops: East 34th Street and Stuyvesant Cove, each of them a five- to ten-minute walk from the school.
