A Pre-K-to-12th grade, coeducational, college-preparatory day school, the United Nations International School (UNIS) was established in 1947 by a group of United Nations parents to provide an international education for their children, while preserving their diverse cultural heritages.

UNIS arts programs offer opportunities for studio practice, problem solving, and cultural investigation through classical and contemporary music, acting, directing, and playwriting, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, computer graphics, and digital photography.

UNIS has an extensive Athletics program, running across three distinct seasons (Fall, Winter and Spring for students in 7th-12th grades, M3-Tut 4), and consists of 38 school teams.

David McLachlan-Karr

2025 Keynote Speakers

David McLachlan-Karr has worked in the United Nations for over 30 years, in the United Nations Development Programme and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Mr McLachlan-Karr has worked in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America, including in complex emergency settings in Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, Kosovo, Sudan, and Iraq. Mr McLachlan-Karr is now Regional Director of the Development Coordination Office in the Asia-Pacific.

David Haeri

David Haeri has worked in the United Nations for 25 years, in New York, Timor-Leste, Afghanistan, and Myanmar, in the Department of Peacekeeping and assistance transitional programmes in Kabul and Dili. Mr Haeri is now Director of the Division for Policy, Evaluation and Training in the Departments of Peacekeeping and Field Support.
